Why Quality Breeders Matter

The Breeds We Provide

We stock a variety of proven breeds and hybrids suited for commercial rabbit farming. Some of them include:

  • New Zealand White – The world’s most popular commercial meat rabbit. Fast-growing, hardy, and produces high-quality meat.
  • Californian White – Known for efficient growth, good meat-to-bone ratio, and high reproductive performance.
  • Flemish Giant – Large-bodied rabbit. Commonly crossed with medium breeds to produce hybrids with excellent growth rates.
  • Checkered Giant – Hardy and adaptable, valued for size and vigor.
  • Chinchilla – Medium-sized, good for both meat and fur.
  • Dutch – Medium-sized, easy to manage, ideal for beginners and small-scale farmers.

At Rabbit Choice Farms, we often recommend hybrid crosses of different breeder lines, to combine fast growth, good meat yield, and resilience.

The Breeds We Provide

To maximize productivity, we guide farmers to follow best practices in stocking and housing:

  • Buck-to-Doe Ratio: Keep 1 buck for every 5 does. This ensures reliable mating without exhausting the buck.
  • Cages per Doe: Plan for 3 cages per doe – one for the doe, one for her first litter, and one for weaned kits. This prevents overcrowding and reduces disease risk.
  • Buck Housing: Each buck requires its own cage to avoid fighting and injuries.
  • Breeding Cycle: Does can safely be bred again 3-4 weeks after kindling (giving birth), which keeps production steady.

What to Expect From Your Breeders

  • Gestation Period: 28–31 days.
  • Litter Size: 6–10 kits on average, with some does producing up to 12.
  • Growth Rate: Kits can reach 2 kg in 3 months, and 3–4 kg in 5 months.
  • Market Readiness: From 5 months onward, rabbits are ready for sale for meat.
  • Productivity Lifespan: Does remain highly productive for about 3–4 years, while bucks can remain fertile for 4–5 years if well managed.

Additional Tips for New Farmers

Record Keeping: Track breeding dates, litter sizes, and growth rates to identify your best performers.

Feeding: A balanced diet of pellets, hay, and fresh greens ensures faster growth and higher fertility.

Health & Disease Management: Always keep cages clean and dry. Early prevention of diseases like coccidiosis and snuffles saves farmers from losses.
